Travel Partner - Osh to Pamir around Sept 13

Country forums / Central Asia / Kyrgyzstan

Hi,

I'm planning to travel from Osh to Khorog through the Pamir and Wakhan valley around Sept 13. Is anyone interested in sharing a car? My dates are flexible but my Tajik visa doesn't start until Sept 13 so I can't go earlier. I'm currently in Karakol, Kyrgyzstan.

Thanks.

Hi gcmozafer, You mentioned you were in Karakol. We will be heading there next week. Any helpful info to share? ie treks you took. places to stay, things to avoid. All the best with the rest of your trip. Many thanks in advance.

I've stayed in the Yak Tours Hostel. The price is now 300 som per person. It doesn't matter if you stay in the dorm or in a private room. I think if you pitch a tent in the backyard is only 70 som. Sadly it's still only have one bathroom with cold water shower. It's actually colder than the water of the lake :) Hopefully the owner will fix it by the time you get here.

Unfortunately I don't have much info on trekking. I just did the hike to Svetov Dolina at Jeti Oghuz. It's quite beautiful. You can get a shared taxi to Jeti Oghuz from the Ak Tilek Bazaar for 30 som per person. Once you ge to Jeti Oghuz, it's a bit difficult to find shared taxi to go to the santorium and it's too far to walk unless you plan to sleep in the valley. A whole taxi cost 100 som but you might be able to bargin it down a bit. The trail to the valley starts outside of the santorium. As you arrived at the santorium, you should see a 4WD dirt road on your left. It begins on the east side of the river. Probably best to be back at the santorium by 5pm if you want to find transport back to Jegi Oghuz. I will probably go to a day hike to Altyn Arashan in the next few days.

The mosque has more people around 1:30pm for prayer time on Friday (not sure about other days). If you are here around the end of Ramadan, there might be more activities there.

All in all, I find Karakol a nice city to walk around in comparison to Kochkor and Naryn. It's not as dusty. Tynystanova street (east of the university) is tree-lined and quite nice.

There are also several ATMs now in the city along Toktogul. Some even say they can give out USD (haven't tried it myself). If you want to go to animal market, take minibus 102. It goes along Toktogul, north to Ak-Tilek and then to the animal market.

Hope this helps.
