Hi
I am cathcing train nr. 18 from Moscow to Bishkek on the first of July. I am a female student travelling alone in the third class compartment. First of all I would like to know whether this plan is (reasonably) safe and what possible dangers there might be. Furthermore I am open to anyone willing to join me on that date. If you know more about the trip or are heading that way yourself please contact me. Thanks in advance!
Jacqueline

Dear Jacqueline,
I would advise you to take this trip only if it is the only way to get to your destination, and arriving to this particular dstination is a matter of life. First of all it is not safe for young girl and a foreigner to travel alone in a third class train. The public that usually uses this types of car is in its greatest majority marginal. In best case they will help you to get rid of the money and valuables, at the end of the second day and until the end of your trip you will have to breath the air flavoured by toilet odours. Be prepared that the third class cars are not airconditioned wnd imagine traveling in packed and stinky car when outside temperature would get over 40 centigrades. Please rethink, Aeroflot has relatively cheap airfare from Moscow to Bishkek, you might want to consider this option.
Good luck
