Crossing the Tajik-Uzbek border

Country forums / Central Asia / Tajikistan

Hi folks,

Is the Tajik-Uzbek border at Samarqand/Penjikent still closed?, I am currently applying for the both tajik and usbek visa and if I will have to use the alternative crossing it will affect the dates of entry and the periods of visits in both countries which I have to submit in my visa application...

and one additional question regarding the fannies, is there any possibility to buy a map of the Fanny mountains in Penikent? Because I found one on the web selling for 25 USD, but this price is in my opinion super-exaggerated...so I would prefer to buy it locally if possible,

thanks,

Unfortunately the border is still closed at Penjikent. I've heard various reports about it opening but no official announcement yet.

You can buy a Russian language map of the Fann Mountains in stationary shops in Dushanbe. (not from Penjikent). Not sure of price I think about $3 I think.

There is an English Language Map of Fann Mountains available from ZTB or ZTDA office in Penjikent (they are next to each other on Rudaki Avenue, in the Tourist Information Centre). Price $10. It includes Map of Zerafshan Valley and Penjikent town maps too.

Regards
Ash
