Hi There,

Hope you are all well. I am travelling to Tajikistan is 2 weeks time and I was keen to find out if I could rent some mountain bikes in Dushanbe? I know the chances are low - but not impossible!

They do not need to be amazing bikes, we have our own panniers etc so it would just be two half decent bikes that we were after.
If this is not possible does anyone know if renting bikes in Urumqi is possible? (I am going to and from there).

Thanks very much for any advice on this!

Jack

Khujand Lenin

if anyone wants to see the large statue of Lenin in Khujand it's still there.

Head past the statue of Somoni (where Lenin used to be) to the next large junction. Here turn left and hop in any marshutka heading that way. Keep an eye out on the left and you'll see him (cap in hand) in a pretty abandoned looking park.

Worth a look still though for sure

Not sure if this has already been covered but I recently travelled from Khujand to Osh avoiding the borders and not paying the $150 that was asked of me for a cab.

Getting to Batken is very easy; 15 Tajik Somoni from Khujand to over the border. Then change and it's 50 Kyrgyz Sum to Batken. In Batken head to the bus station and ask around for marshutkas to Chon Kara. This is the first town on a series of back roads through industrial areas that will take you to Kyzl Kia avoiding the enclaves…

Hi travellers

I will be crossing into Tajikistan in 2 days and am in Osh at the moment. I need to choose from the Fan mountains, taking in Maguzor Lakes or the Tajik Wakhan taking in Zor Kul Lake. Can you please tell me which is the most scenic as I don't have time for both. I will also be going to Iskander Kul.

thanks

happy travels

the lp in central asia seems to suggest that hitching in the pamirs and to other trekking destinations (fan mountains, wakhan valley etc) isnt really possible.. is this true? also, there are a few places that organize homestays, but do you really need to prearrange? id much rather just show up and find my own accomodation. is this possible, has anyone done this?

GBOA hints

Have just spent 8 days in GBAO with Pamir Guides who I recommend highly.
http://www.pamirguides.com/

Some hints-

Only reliable internet is in Khorog- good cafe next to post office with generally high speed. There is a pay by the hour wifi in Khorog which my computer automatically tried to connect to. $2 hr, $10 day. Tried it for one hour but it kept falling out.

Tried the internet at the Resource Centre in Murghab but it was slow and expensive. The sign inside says that you must pay for the…

Hello,
In about a week my wife and I will set out on a bicycle trip in Pamir. We will cycle through the Bartang valley to Murghab, then along M41 before turning to the Wakhan valley and end our trip in Khorog.

We would like to take lots of photos during this trip and our camera is rather power hungry. I have searched the forum for information regarding the power supply in the region and have found out that it is irregular, to say the least.

Where can we expect to find enough electricity to…

Hello,
A couple of days ago I wrote a question on the cycling forum about the Bartang valley. Unfortunately I got no answer so I think I should try this forum instead.

What I would like to know is the status of the bridges in the lower part of the Bartang valley in Pamir. I am going to cycle there in about a week from now and last year some of the bridges were swept away by big floods and I have heard rumours about not all of them being rebuilt yet.

Is there anybody who has been to the Pamir on…
