Hi everybody,
will it be a problem to cross the border tot Tajikistan with uzbek Som? Is the amount of uzbek money you can carry with you limited? I will arrive in Tashkent 16th of october and from there go to Termez and try from there to cross the border by train. As I have seen on a map there are two railways from Termez to Tajikistan - one going to Dushanbe and the other going to Qurghonteppa, which is the one I want to go with.

Just wanted to give you some feedback about geting visa in Dushambe for onward travel to the West

Uzbekistan visa
We got our Uzbek visa in Dushambe on the spot with an LOI from Stantours. The visa cost us 75$ each.

Iranian visa

My Tajik Tourist Visa, issued in Bishkek, is valid from 20 August 2011 until 21 September, for a total of 33 days. I had requested a standard 30 day visa and did not notice the 21 Sept date until today. My date of entry into Tajistan was 21 August 2011, one day after the "valid from" date.

Here's the question: Do I need to register with OVIR (or another office) if I stay in Taj until 21 Sept as I now intend? I cannot depart earlier as I'm continuing to…

I’m planning on travelling from Dushanbe to Khoroog around September 10. Anyone interested in travelling together in order to share the transport costs?

When I am in Khoroog I’d like to do some trekking in the mountains. The Pamirs don’t seem to be mountains to do this on alone though. Again, anyone interested to join? I’m definitely interested in physically more challenging treks and I have a decent amount of mountaineering and trekking experience.

We plan to travel from Tajikistan through UZ and TM to Iran for two months.
As far as I understand,
a) regarding Uzbekistan, a person cannot leave the country with more cash than he had at entering (for that reason it is not possible to withdraw more money than was spent in Uzbekistan)
b) in Turkmenistan it is practically limited to withdraw money from ATMs or banks,
c) in Iran there are no ATMs or banks accepting international credit/debit cards.

We will be a pair traveling together, so
But we are budget travellers and need to keep costs down, but we don't want to have to wait 5 days for each transport leg (ie. between Khorog and and Murghab, Murghab and Sary Tash). Recently spent two months in Tajikistan doing research in the Pamirs. For the return to Dushanbe, the folks who run Pamir Lodge suggested their friend, Mokim. He's one of the best mountain drivers I've been in the car with. Unfortunately, once he gets into the city, he acts like he's on a race course. I'll be working in Dushanbe for about a week in late September. Can anyone recommend a good 2-3 day trip of the city? Unfortunately I've not got a lot of time but I'd like to see something other than Dushanbe.

Also is it possible to catch a flight from Dushanbe to Almaty? which airlines & about how much?

Just a quick check…I’ll be traveling from Afghanistan to Tajikistan next month, planning to cross the border at Ishkashim. I have the visa for both the countries but not the GBAO permit.

1. Is it true that without the GBAO permit is impossible to make the crossing? Is there any other border crossing between both the countries that doesn’t require the GBAO in advance?
2. Is the registration a one-time only process? How much does it costs as I heard that there have been different charges on those.
