We tried thinking it would be a no no but it was easy, we followed the extremly helpful instructions found elsewhere on this forum and within a couple of hours we had the permits. They say the road is ok for tourists although that is by no means a green light to go, you have to use your noggin and think if its worth it or no.
Personally we are still undecided although having cycled for close to 5 months to get here turning around is quite a hard thing to do. We got the permits so we have the…
Hi,
We are in Dushanbe. Yesterday we were to go Khorog and from there to Wakhan valley by bicycle, but we didn't go because of the situation.
Today some people told us that the roads are yet closed and tourist people are blocked in the road, they can't go nor to Khorog, neither to Dushanbe.
Does anybody know if the roads are closed and if they are closed when will they be opened2

Dear All
My original plan was to get a GBAO in Dushanbe and start my Pamir trip from Khorog. Due to incident just happened in Khorog, I plan to visit the Eastern Pamir only. If I skip Dushanbe, I'd enter Tajik via Krygz. That means either I'd get the GBAO in Tashkent, UZ or Bishkek, KG. But I heard that GBAO will be only issued in Dushanbe. Does anyone know the situation? Thanks!

Hi all
I read a BBC news report today that said that there was quite a lot of unrest around Khorog today with several reported killings. As well as being sad for the country itself it's also putting a question mark on whether the Pamir Highway is safe to travel on at the moment.
I was planning on travelling from Osh to Khorog next month but can anyone confirm what the situation is like there at the moment and whether this is still possible? Or am I going to have to find another way into…
Hi,
I've got flight ticket to Dushanbe, arriving on August 20th (returning home on September 6th). My plan is to do +/- 10 days trek in central pamir in the area betwen lakes Bulunkul/Yashikul and Sarez, see the pamir highway and some other interesting places on the way to mountains. I would like to find some other traveller(s) for sharing my adventure :-)
If anyone interested, let me know. Many thanks
Mike
Visa were obtained from the Tajik embassy in Berlin, sent our passports by mail, took 2-3 weeks as promised, no hassle, just follow their description meticulously. No letter of invitation required.
Accommodation in Dushanbe: Marian's Guesthouse, single room EUR 85. Price includes breakfast, free pick up and delivery at the airport (any time of the day or night), free transport to town for dinner if driver is available, free laundry. Not the cheapest, but nice location and staff, well organised…
Hello,
I just received my Tajik visa in Islamabad (Australian passport), cost USD45 all up and took under 2 hours including me writing a letter of my intentions in Tajikistan. When I asked about the GBAO permit he first said no he couldn't do it as he didnt have the forms. When I got my passport back he had handwritten "Entry to GBAO permitted" in English as well as the local lingo, plus his signature and stamp. That's when he told me it cost 25 for the visa plus 20 for the GBAO permit…

Dushanbe-Khorog-Pamir Highway-Qolma Pass - Kashgar OR
-Osh - Irkeshtam- Kashgar
About the visa issue:
1) It shoud be possible to get a Uzbekistan visa arrival at the Tashkent airport. Some said it's only valid for those whose countries have no Uzbek embassy. And some even said the country refers not to the one you are in residence but the one where your plane comes from... could anyone…
