I am taking a tour to Pamirs in the end of June (departure from Dushanbe around June 21-June 25) and 2 other persons already replied to join me in the tour.

Is it still possible to get visa (Dutch national) on the spot at Dushanbe airport without LOI or whatsoever?
Is March/April a good period to travel to Tad? Is it possible to drive to Khorog and Karakul? Is the Pamir highway open, including the high passes?

Just been in Tajikistan for 3 weeks and wanted to mention that teh Lonely Planet Central Asia book is rather out of date when we tried to use it for reference in planning the trip.
Soe points - Penjakent to Samarkand ( Uzbek) - border remains closed - so no way through inless you go to Kholand or Dushanbe.
Road to Khojand no has been upgraded by a chinese tunnel which cuts of 2 hours of travel - also the snow is not closing the road so much now.

This june me and my friend are planning a road trip from Europe to Almaty by our own car. Our route goes through Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzistan and finally to Kazakhstan. Next June, I am planning to travel to Tajikistan, and start trip in Dushanbe and then to Pamirs, and further to Osh and Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan). I am interested in hiking, but no trekking.
I was looking in internet but the trips I found are quite expensive ... One guy from Italy recommended to take a tour (he gave me contacts and details of the tour he took) and it is $600 for 11 days trip, for the group of 6 persons.
