Hello, I'll go to Taj this summer, nearly one month, we are 2 female travellers, used to mountainering but I'll have to avoid to carry heavy bag this summer, so I have to choose area to go trekking where I can rent mules or horse, or I'll have to find a small agency. I'd like to go to Khorog and try to go to Wakkhan, is it easy this year? is it possible to organise trek from khorog?
I think the main possible places to go trekking is fan mountains ( I've been there in 1995) and Pamir area but what places? is it possible to find there easily horses like in kirghistan?
can we buy somewhere gas bottle like in kirghistan?
thanks for any advice and adress, have a nice day, SBZ

"is it possible to find there easily horses like in kirghistan?"
Tadjiki + stan
Kyrgyz + stan
I can feel some difference even from the names...
IMHO even to find good porters like Przhvalsky Horses

= porters from Karakol (former Przhvalsk) = good pack Homo Sapiens Sapiens wouldn't be easy
Tadjiks = Northern Persians due to their very own nature hate being used like donkeys (a respectful bad habit)
but pack donkeys are available sometimes and somewhere (unfortunately donkeys cant wear crump ons and use ice-axes)
The best trekking in Tadjikistan i know
Dushanbe - Jirgatal - Devshar (or Muk) by car further on feet Devshar - Belkandau pass - the bridge over the Sugran river -Irget pass -ford Khadyrsha river - Kuraishafak pass - Fortambek Glacier - Moskvina glacier/Peak Communism (7495 m) base camp - radial walks to upper reaches of Moskvina Glacier and Walter glacier (or even to try to climb Korzhenevskaya 7100 m for acclimatization and then Communism in Alpine style) - return to Jirgatal by helicopter

Throughout Fann Mountains it is straightforward to hire donkeys with handlers. And for most trekking the routes for the places you wish to camp will be accessible by donkey.
Gas bottles are available only in Dushanbe, from Alp Navruz.
If you have already been to the Fann Mountains - you may already have explored the more popular areas around Kulikalon and Allaudin and Haftkul.
What about heading to Kuhistoni Mastchoh or into Yagnob valley at the Eastern end of the Zerafshan Valley - there are routes upto the Zerafshan Glacier from their.
Although you have experience of mountaineering, I got the feeling from your post that you might be looking for something less extreme. Though of course there are plenty of opportunities for Alpinism.
This year is the 40th Anniversary of Alp Camp Artuch and they are having several events to celebrate so might also be nice to head there.
