There are lots of shared vehicles going between Dushanbe and Khorog ever day at $45 a seat. Also several going to Ishkashim at $10 a seat. You could cut costs doing that but might lose time compared to if the driver was just waiting to pick you up as soon as you arrived.

12 hours Dusanbe to Khorog? It took me 24!

Also, if it were me, I would insist on going straight to Sargaz in one day. The scenery around Qual e Panj isn't great and its quite a large settlement for the Wakhan. Sargaz is only 9 or 10 hours from Ishkashim so can easily be done in one day and is more interesting. You could even insist on going from Ishkashim to Sarhad, the end of the road, in one day. That would be about 12 - 14 hours if the road isnt blocked by floods. That would give you more time trekking in a more remote area. Guides will say its not possible as they want more money for less work, but dont believe them!

Also, hot springs in Sargaz - they're just a small mud hut with one room and water coming out of a pipe. Is that really what you're going all that way for? By all means use them if you have to overnight there, but dont stay in Sargaz purely for them.
