Hi,
Reading the topics I see that many travellers on this thorn Tree will be there in May or June.
I plan to arrive around the 20 or 25 august for 1 month. What about the weather ? Is the weather / temperature change quickly early September ? or still fine ? Snow could fall on the Pamir Highway ?
I have a nice remember of harvest in Ladakh in the beginning of September, is it the same in Wakhan ? And about the jailoo, when the go down ?
Many thanks for your answers.
Phil

Hi Phil,
I don't think you have to worry unduely about the weather at this time of year. You could be unlucky with low cloud but no more so that at any other time over the tourist season.

The second harvest is usually later than early September, towards the end of the month and the yurts come down from the hig pastures in the first or second week of October, again according to the weather conditions at that time.

Snow can fall at any time on the passes of the highway but you'd be very unlucky if they knock you back more than a day or so. If you've got a month then such a situation shouldn't be too much of an inconvenience.

META are going to trial a road report service for the highway later this year that should get underway during May. It certainly won't be updated on a daily basis (as most tourists won't have daily access to the internet anyway) but it should highlight any major issues with the route.

Regards,

Hi,

I will not be so helpful than expected but normally, it will be okay, at least for a lot of parts of the country, until the end of September. Jaloo still in use but it's not so easy to say about weather. With the climate change it's not like in the past.
