Hi all,

This morning I went to the Chinese embassy here in Dushanbe to apply for a tourist visa but I was asked for a LOI, something that EU citizens don´t need, I have a Spanish passport. I have tried to explain this to them but 'new regulation' and 'requested to everybody' was the only answer they would give me.

Do you know any agency in Dushanbe that can take care of a LOI? Or any Chinese agency that could do that online?

To complicate things more, the Embassy only opens for visa issues on Wednesdays and Fridays, not sure about Mondays, and next week apparently they will be closed for a one week Chinese Holiday.

They suggested that 'maybe' with a letter from my Embassy they could issue it, but there is no Spanish Embassy in Tajikistan so I had a really annoying experience on the phone with the Secretary of the French Embassy and later an unsuccessful try at the German Embassy.

If you can answer my question or give some advice, that will be great. Anyway, be warned: what they say about the Chinese Embassy in Tajikistan being a pain in the neck is very true...

Thanks,

José

PS: I had booked a flight leaving from Dushanbe to Kunming on October, 13th but it didn't soften them a bit.

I think that it could be a good idea to crosspost this question in the Asia-North East Asia branch because there can be Chinese experts there that might be able to help you.

You can try to contact the Spanish embassy in Kazajstan to see if they can provide you that letter. contact details

If you want to try with all EU embassies in Tajikistan, remember that there's also a Bristish Embassy in Dushambe. More info here.

If you aren't able to get a visa in Tajikistan, you can try to change your flight or to buy a new ticket to Macau or Hong Kong (where you can enter visa free) and to get your Chinese visa there.
