Hi there,

unless the Pamirs reopen again by the end of this month, then I guess I will go to Fan Mountains with a friend I'm metting in Dushanbe.

My questions are simple, first, is the bus a good way to go from Penjikent to Artush?

Second, once in Artush, do we need tent and/or sleeping bag for staying in Artush Alplager or they can provide us with these items in case necessary? We don't intend to go travelling with this gear, hence my question.

And last, is there any how to go then from Artush to the turbaza in Islander-Kul?

Thanks a lot and kind regards,

Iker

If you don´t want to bring a tent you can stay in the alplager itself. They have cheap rooms in the building, and a couple of more expensive cottages. There is a restaurant too.

Great, that sounds really fine...no need either for the sleeping bag, right?

By the way, did you do any one day trekking on your own from Artush or you contacted with some tour agency for a trek?

Thanks a lot and greetings,

When are you planning to go there? As I remember from the last year, there was noone at around 30th of August and the base was going to close.

I am planning to go close to the end of September...I hope they are opened, anyway, I will consult also to the ZTDA once I am in Penjikent b/c they also offer homestays in several valleys and locations, :-))

Liraly, could you tell me of any hike you did? I plan to do one day treks in the region.

Thanks and greetings,

iker_vit,
you mean the region of Artuch alplager? Once you are there, it's absolutely obligatory to go to Kulikalon Lakes, they are about 3 hours walk from the alplager. The path is clear and no guide is needed.

If you take another path from the alplager, which goes right above it, to the south, you can visit 2 other lakes. They are much smaller. I saw the first one - lake Chukurak - and I would say that I was disappointed by it, seems that something wrong was going on there. Maybe because that year was rather dry. You can check the current situation!

As for the other treks - they are longer and you will need a tent. But I ensure it is worth that! :) From the Kulikalon lakes there is an easy way to the adjacent valley through the pass Alaudinskij. Another alpinistic camp is located there - near Alaudinskie Lakes. Very beautiful place also! You can go along that valley to see the upper lake, grey and severe, surrounded by the big stones and bare screes.
So quite a lot of opportunities! ;)

P.S. From Artuch to Iskanderkul is about 5-6 days walking.
