Hi there!
Since the border is still closed (it is, right?) at Pendjikent, what is the fastest way to get from Dushanbe to Samarkand?
Alternatively - how much time does it take to go to Tashkent from the same?
Thanks!

i went the other way a month or two ago... took a night train from samarkand to denau (9 hours?), then a taxi to the tajik border (40 mins?). then, from there, a taxi to dushanbe (maybe 1 or 1.5 hours, i forget).
There is train service as #1 indicates. Otherwise you can get cars from the Tajik side of the border, sharing with people going either all the way or to one of the spots along the route (such as Guzar).

Hope this question isn't too silly. I have been reading up on going from Uzbekistan to Tajikistan and there are some elements which remain obscure. Does the boarder at Pendjikent close frequently or is the recent closure a one-off event?
To give you a bit of context, we are three Swiss guys planning to spend two weeks summer 2012 mainly in Uzbekistan but also in Tadjikistan.
Many thanks for your imput
