Dear travellers,

I am going to be in Dushanbe from July 6th to July 10th, alone: visiting the city + trying to go to Hissar

I would like to know if some of you are travelling there as well and would like to meet.

I am a young woman, so any tips from single woman travellers in Tajikistan is welcome as well

Do you think it is insane to do it or relatively safe?

I am living and working in Kazakhstan for a few months now, so i am not a -stan beginner, but still.

  • I am beginning some tajik classes to know a few words before getting there.

I have seen a nice post about what to do in Dushanbe, do you have additionnal recommandations? cafes, restaurants, do's and dont's, how to get to Hissar?

Thank you a lot in advance!

my best.

The immigration processes at the airport are insane, and many drivers of shared taxis between the cities are insanely drunk, but otherwise Dushanbe is very safe (not just relatively).

Do make sure you ask for a Tourist visa (look for the 'T' -- TYPUCTU). With any other kind, you'll need to go to the further trouble of registering, which will take a disporportionate amount of time out of your short stay.

Don't cross the street in Dushanbe unless on a pedestrian crossing, especially during the daytime. Otherwise, you face the prospect of an on-the-spot bribe -- er, I mean, fine.

Don't worry if a policement approaches you to ask for money for no reason, especially while you're photographing monuments in the park. Just ignore the request and chatter away about something boring until he gives up and wanders off.

Super Emmeff,

thank you a lot

I have already read all the threads about the tourist visa vs XC and I will make it here in Kazakhstan so i can control it in advance.

Thanks a lot for your good tips for the road and the cops...

another -stan adventure i guess!
