Hi, I was reading, that boarder cross between Samarkand and Pejikent is closed from November 2010. Do you know the actual situation? It is still closed?
Thanks
Frank

Hi frank, last year i heard the same as you. i was just in penjikent a few days ago, but i stayed inside Tajikistan. I heard from travellers who took a flight to Khojand to enter into Tajikistan, so seems to me that its still closed, but i am really not sure about it. see other thread http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa?threadID=2071772

Unfortunately the border is definately closed and is unlikely to open this year. Decision on the Uzbek side, not the Tajik side.

Penjikent is a nice little town and very historically interesting. For those with time to spend in Tajikistan its still worth travelling along the Zerafshan Valley to visit us.

From Penjikent it is one days drive to either Dushanbe or Khujand where you can cross to Uzbekistan. (The border at Konibadam is also still open).

Regards
Ash
