Hi,
I'm thinking about cycling from Tajikistan on the Pamir Highway, and finishing in Osh, Kyrgystan, in June. The UK Foreign Office class the region (Oblast?) around Osh as a "no go" area at the moment (for all but essential travel). Has anyone travelled in that region recently? How is it? People on the ground might have a better idea.
Cheers
Is this still easy? What are current fees?
When I extended a 1-week visa into a 30-day visa back in 2008, some of the other Westerners in the queue had been in the country for months and were just coming into the OVIR office every 30 days for a new tourist visa extension. The clerks wanted you to write your own letter of introduction, but as long as you paid the fee they didn't seem to care who you were or what you were up to in Kyrgyzstan.
I know that some ATM's in Bishkek allow for withdrawals of US $.
If I have a US $ denominated card is the transaction done just in dollars, or is it based on converting the US amount into Som and then back again to US $. Result being a double dose of currency conversion fees?
If I end up with a double dose of fees, then I'd be better to bring a wad of US $ with me............
Can someone help please.
I have been granted a 30-day tourist visa by the Embassy to visit Kyrgyzstan. On the visa, there is a "From" date and a "Until" date. Is it okay if I enter the country later than the "From" date? Sounds silly, but some friends are saying I can only enter on the "From" date.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Ill be flying into Bishkek soon. How much should I expect a taxi to be at 5am into the city please?
Any good recommendations for budget accomodation?
Ive read somewhere that street crime can be a problem. Any thoughts on this?
Also, Ill be travelling in a loop via Uzbekistan and Tajikistan before continuing on to China, which means ducking back into Kyrgyzstan briefly. Ive read that only a 30 day visa is available on arrival at Bishkek airport, so Ill have to pick up another on the way…
I'd like to go overland from Batken town to the Isfara-Isfana road without passing through Tajikistan. I realize this means passing between Tajikistan and the Vorukh enclave. Is this possible? Has anyone on this forum done it?
Thanks!
Hello,
On different websites the Saary Jaaz Valley is called, which should be superb for cycling. However, I can't find this Valley on any map.
Doe anybody know where this valley is located & how the road conditions are?
It should be nearby Karakol.
Thanks in advance!
Hi travellers
I was wondering what guide to buy in between Bradt and LP for Kyrgyzstan. LP has 'Central Asia' and as I would also like to go to Tajikistan, don't know if it's best to go for Bradt and then get just LP's Tajikistan pages or if I should just go for LP's Central Asia. Did anyone use any of these guides and if you did, were they useful and is there one you would recommend over the other. I usually go for LP for Asia but have used Bradt for Africa as I was told they were better than…
Hi,
I’m travelling to Uzbequistan mid of April for around 10-12 days and, from there, I was thinking about going to Kyrgyzstan for 5-6 days. I have some questions about this, hoping somebody can help me: how is the situation to cross from Uzb to Kyrgyzstan through the Ferghara Valley? Is it worthy for just 5 or 6 days? Is it Kyrgyzstan now more or less stable in this area?
Thanks
