sleeping bag

I will hopefully be trekking in both Kyrgyzstan in July and August and Tajikistan in August and first week of September. Will it be very cold as in below 0 degrees celcius at night as not sure which sleeping bag will be better. I have one which is from 1 to 4 and another one that goes below . On the other hand, I read that temperature will be really hot during the day, in its 30’s, is this so please or does this apply only to cities and places like the Fans?

Thanking you

Hi travellers!

How is the situation at Bishkek airport at night? I will be arriving at 3.30am. Will there be a bank open and is the exchange rate quite close to the exchange offices in town? Is euro accepted?

And how about an honest taxi driver? Is he hard to find especially at that hour and is it safe? (I’m a solo female and didn’t read good stuff re Bishkek at night.. don’t know much about the airport though). How much should it cost to the centre? Also, I think better book a place to stay…

Hi all.

I am a United States citizen, and was hoping to travel to Kyrgyzstan in July. For various reasons, I will not have time to obtain a visa back home. Has anyone had any recent experience with obtaining a visa upon arrival at Manas International Airport in Bishkek?

Thanks.

Hi - not quite a typical set of questions, but would anyone be able to give me a rough guide of prices of shrydaks bought in KG, especially if we get to Kochkor, which I believe is the best place for buying them? I would be interested in a decent sized one (e.g. 200cm x 150cm or 7ft x 5ft). I'd actually want to use it. Has anyone ever bought one and how does it work back home - does the colour run/are they a pain to clean/do they smell??

Thanks very much!

Dear travellers

Sorry for inquiring again but I still have some other questions and people travelling to this part of the world are not easy to find on here so I will really appreciate your help and advice.

Has anyone from a country listed as eligible for a visa on arrival at Manas Airport, Bishkek got on a flight from London Gatwick? I don’t have a British passport. Was it easy to get checked in without a visa? How can I prove that I will get it once there? Is it ok if I print out some info…

I have visa queries please. I have both an Aussie (I live in Sydney) and UK passports. Currently I am booked on a horse ride in Kyrgystan on 3rd July but am having problems getting a flight from Sydney to Bishkek. Therefore, will probably have to fly to Tashkent first. Then I plan after the ride (finished 20th July) to travel to Uzbekistan for a few weeks - tour company yet to be decided. I have read that because Australia has no representations, I can get visas on arrival. Can anyone out there…

Hi travellers!

Did anyone attempt this trek? How hard is it? I’m not a climber or technical at climbing but I’ve trekked at high altitudes before. I read on LP that one can rent a 4wd up to the yak farm in Echkili-Tash before starting the trek. I prefer it this way as one has to carry all the food for the whole trek and I might not find enough foods that are suitable for me as I’m intolerant to gluten. Is it easy to get food from Karakol and what type of food please? Also did anyone do this…

Dear travellers,

I plan to go Kyrgyzstan the commin summer, and I am a little bit worried about internal tensions. Last year there were some troubles in the Osh area and in the south in general. Does anyone have idea of how is the country nowdays?

Hi there,

Just wondering how safe/comfortable it is for women travelling independently in Kyrgyzstan. I'm planning to travel there in July and intend to use Community Based Tourism (CBT) to go on tours from Bishkek, probably near the Kochkor and Issyk Kul area. I may also try to do a couple of days of English teaching as a volunteer.

I'd be really interested in hearing from women who have done this before, but also interested in hearing from others too.

Cheers,

Rowena
