Hi everyboby!
we are two italian ladies and we're going to Kyrgystan & Uzbekistn from 13th of August till mid September.
We are planning to do some trekking in Karakol region: has anyboby information about how to do it? Is it possible on our ones or is it necessary to book a tour? Is anybody going & interested in sharing this experience with us? It will be around 15th of July.
ciao!
giulia and francesca

Ciao!
we just did a 4 day trek and it was really awesome! We did it without a guide and it was not a problm, as you meet people on the trek. However, you must bring your own tent, sleeping bag and food (on the third day you will come to Altyn Arashan where there are hot springs and a place where you will get a nice, home cooked dinner). If you do not have any gear you can rent in Karakol (CBT asked 200 som/day for the tent, Eco Tours 150 som/day). If you go from Karakol we recommend to sleep the second night after the pass coming down from Lake Ala Kol (not at the lake as many people do). If you want to know more, find details here: http://www.whenbutnow.com/trekking-karakol-ala-kol-altyn-arashan

Fritz

... By the way, concerning Uzbekistan, we'd like to ask you some questions:
1) concerning money: is there international ATM or should we bring cash?
2) is it corect that we have to keep all hotel receipts to show for border control? Do we also have to keep restaurant, bus ticket etc. receipts?
3) in general, is it a safe country? is there anything we really shoul pay atteion to?
Grazie!!! ciao

Hi,
You'll love Uzbekistan!!
just quickly regarding your questions:
1) bring piles of cash (dollars are best, but Euros are OK also). Change on the black market, rates are 25% better than the official rate. If you should run out of cash you can withdraw USD at the big hotels
2) yea, you should keep the registrations. But Recently I hear that no one ever asks for them. And no need to keep other receipts. All really hazzle free in Uzbekistan.
3) super safe. Do not worry at all!
Cheers
