I have booked a ticket for a conference I will be attending for 6 days at the end of July at Cholpon-Ata in Issyk Kul lake and left about 5-6 days afterward to find 1-2 good short-term treks. What area do you recommend as far as the distance from Issyk Kul, beauty of area, opportunity to stay in homestay (possibly yurt)- shall I check in with the impressive CBT about ths? Not a professional climber but an avid trekker, age over 50...I like the idea of interacting with local communities while trekking....suggestions? Tips? Ideas?

What kind of costs are we looking at? There is a possibility that we may have a small group as well- unkown right now. Thanks.

CBT is great. Organised, communicative, reasonably priced. I did two days of horseback riding with them and loved it. Yurtstays are definitely possible. I can't speak on costs, though, since my experience was very different than a multi day trek with guide. Maybe email them?

Thanks, I have heard so many good things about CBT and am excited to check in with them up ahead. I definitely identify and support community based tourism around the world and I am happy that it is strong and effective here.

if you are already in this area, you could go for a horseback trekking starting from barskoon.
we did this trek: http://unexplored-destinations.com/Kirgyzstan.html and addet one more day.
and where amazed by the beauty of the landscape !!!! i definetly want to go there again for another
horseback trekking. i had no experiences in horseback riding. but as it goes slow, it is not a problem and
it is fun ! there are also other treks (longer / shorter etc. but you have to tell them if you are an experienced
rider or not. only then they can recomment you a trip ......) we met the shepherds and when we camped near a yurt, the people envited us to eat with them. around the end of the tour we where staying with a shepherds family in their yurt. have a great time in kyrgyzstan !
