Hi, I'm trying to find a driver to take me from Bishkek to Osh on Day 1, and from Osh/Dostuk to Tashkent on Day 2.

I want to travel by land, and I want a private driver (or drivers) -- instead of a shared tax -- so I can make some stops on the way for photography and interesting things on the way. I would also prefer to arrange it in advance so I have a somewhat trustworthy driver.

I emailed several travel companies, and the prices I'm getting are ridiculously outrageous. $400-600 for Bishkek-Osh, and $250-350 for Dostuk-Tashkent. I'm fine paying somewhat more than the cost of an entire shared taxi for one person (e.g., 4 seats in a $x / person shared taxi, plus some extra). But these travel agencies are giving me prices that are multitudes more than this.

Does anyone have ideas for how I can obtain a reasonable price for this?

Hi I recently did the Bishkek-Osh by SHARED taxi. I paid 1200 som (23 USD).
Therefore if you rent one just for you it should be around 100 USD....
For this trip you don't really have to arrange it in advance. Just go the to taxi stand in Bishkek (at the bus station) and tell around that you need a car...
Don't know about Osh-Bishkek...

My problem with finding a private car from the shared taxi stand, is that these guys often aren't the types who understand that you're a tourist and want to stop at some interesting things on the way or take some pics of some scenery on the way. Also, they don't get paid for that and want to get you from point A to point B so they can get on with their lives. That's why it just makes sense to at least find someone in advance or even thru a hotel...
