Hello!

I will be traveling to Bishkek from Monday, July 14th to Monday, July 21st.

I must stay in town through the work week. However, I would like to get out of the city during the weekend.

I noted that the National Horse Games are taking place on Saturday July 19th. Does anyone have insight in getting to the event or plan on attending? I would not mind joining a trek or roadtrip for the weekend. I would love to combine the games with trekking or a yurt stay.

Unfortunately, I do not know Russian which is a bit limiting.

Please let me know!

I'm interested in doing the exact same thing. I heard that the horse games are happening then but can't find any other info.

I plan to check with CBT Kyrgyzstan to see if they have any info.

I too can only go on the weekend, so let's keep in touch and see if we want to travel there together. Although I too speak almost no Russian so I won't be very helpful to you there.

I'll be going as well. But will probably be coming from Song Kol, so not of use in the car sharing department.

There are apparently lots of homestays via the CBT in Kyzyl Oy, so that's not a problem. And you can also get a shared taxi from Bishkek as far as the split in the Suusamyr Valley after the Tor-Ashuu Pass (all the traffic to Osh and Lake Toktogul goes that way). But then public transpo sort of evaporates the last 40 or so miles to Kyzyl Oy. You can hitchhike it or, if you find other takers from Bishkek, rent a whole car for yourself.

Hope to see you there!

Thank you for your input, angleofrepose!

When are you leaving for Song Kol? It seems like there will be a good sized group there headed over to the games. Are you staying in a guest house?

I am thinking perhaps I can leave the city a bit earlier depending on the status of my work and hoping to get a trek and a yurt stay in.

Hope to see you as well!

I head get on a horse or strap on my boots and start hiking on the 13th. Thing is I am coming from Osh and trying to come in via Ak-Tal (past Kazarman) in the south. Sounds amazing and not the same route everyone else takes - but would be out of the way coming from Bishkek. If that proves impossible or prohibitively expensive however I will have to come in from Kochkor or Kyzart like everyone else. Could let you know in a couple of days.

There aren't any guesthouses at Song Kol - just yurts.

What's the group headed to Song Kol? What are they planning?
