Air Astana have changed their timetables, so that it is no longer possible to fly Bangkok- Almaty and connect with the Almaty-Bishkek flight.

You must stay almost a day in Almaty to get the second flight- which means you need a transit visa (in advance)

However, the less frequent Kuala Lumper- Almaty flight does now connect with the Bishkek flight with 4 hrs between flights.

The KZ embassy in Singapore told me that no transit visa is required for a 4 hr stopover.

You cannot book the full KL- Bishkek ticket online, you have to buy 2 separate tickets, but Air Astana tell me they will book the full KL-Bishkek ticket as a single ticket and at single ticket price if you send them an email.

Lets hope they dont change their schedules again before I leave!!

Depending on your nationality you now no longer need a separate Kazakhstan visa as long as you have a fully valid Kyrgyz one and aren't travelling anywhere else except the district adjacent to Kyrgyzstan (including Almaty)

For most of us we dont get the KG visa until we hit Manus Airport.
