Having read the previous reports on this subject, I am currently following up the various leads in order to find some transportation from Bishkek to the border and on to Kashgar.

I am a solo traveler, and I will be in and around Bishkek from approx. June 8-11, 2011.

If anyone is interested in teaming up for a speedy Bishkek - Kashgar trip, please let me know, because I think the road venture will be much more interesting than a flight from Bishkek to Kashgar via Urumqi...

In addition, any available up-to-date information on the border crossing situation is appreciated.

Unless you have travelled around KG, you will miss much with a speedy trip for Bishkek to Kashgar.

Think about staying in places like Karakol, Kochkor on route. There are ohtr top places as well.

The only place not worth staying at is Naryn- but you will have to over night there anyhow!

I did the Torugart crossing from Naryn to Kashgar in early June, transportation was arranged by CBT in Bishkek.

The trip to the border featured some bad roads yet spectacular landscapes, and a somewhat sluggish Kyrgyz border clearance. The formalities on the Chinese side of the border, however, were handled speedily and most efficiently, and in stark contrast to reports of past crossings.

All in all, the trip was not quite as adventurous as I had expected, but some technical car problems on the Kyrgyz side made up for it...

Thanks for all the information. It is really helpful. The website of the company you used is not working at the moment. Do you have their email? If so, it will be great if you could post it here. I wonder also about the price and if you met some solo travellers doing this route on their own.

I am planning to take the same route on July 1 in order to arrive in Kashgar on the 2nd. If anyone wants to join me, feel most welcome!
