Hello everyone

I'm currently in Bishkek and i need to travel to Almaty in the following days. I only have now a kyrgyz tourist visa expiring at the end of next week (08/11/10)

I read here in the forum and in other websites in the net that it is POSSIBLE to travel to Kazakhstan without a kazakh visa as soon as you remain in the Almaty oblast, which is my intention, with a kyrgyz tourist visa.

That's the theory, but....what about the practice?

  • has someone a previous experience?
  • are the (corrupted) officers in the kazakh side aware of that regulation?
  • in case i need to stay for more than 5 days (since i have a week left in my kyrgyz visa) would i be able to make the kazakh registration with my kyrgyz visa????

um, seems a little bit complicated, any help or tip would be much appreciated

thanks

I can't answer your questions, but why not just get a KZ visa? It's easy and cheap to get, and you can have it in 2-3 days.

From the little I've read about the acceptance of the KG visa in/around Almaty, it seems a likely transit measure. You've indicated you're planning to stay in KZ for more than a few days. If they let you in at all, I don't think the Kazakhs will appreciate you wandering around without an appropriate visa unless you are heading to Almaty airport.

I don't want to get a kazakh visa if i don't have to being my kyrgyz tourist visa still valid, that's why....and i'm planning to stay there less than 5 days, if possible

As far as I know, this scheme hasn't actually been implemented yet. I guess the strife in KGZ hasn't helped. I wouldn't risk it.
