I will be travelling to Bishkek with a friend in November and we are looking for a decent mid-range guesthouse with twin rooms in Bishkek. I have looked at the Sakura (which - unless I am mistaken - didn't seem too central) and the USSR Hostel (more central but not so many reviews). Many other reviews seem relatively old. While we are keen to experience Kyrgyzstan and avoid spending all our time with other foreigniers, equally somewhere where we may meet other travellers (which recognising that November isn't really peak season) to potentially share the cost of out of town trips would also be a bonus.

Grateful for your recent recommendations!

Sakura is not central located but well located.
When I arrived (from Belgium) I stayed in a CBT home but it was really not central located.
Sakura is a pleasant place.

Sakura has a nice location. It's walking distance to what you'd probably call the city center in Bishkek, and there are many buses that pass nearby. It's been a few years since I stayed there, but it certainly used to be a great little hostel, and a good place to meet other travelers (though unless Kyrgyzstan tourism has really boomed in the last couple of years, you're unlikely to find too many around in November...)

I stayed in Sabyrbek's B&B which is ok. It is quite basic but you have a kitchen at your disposal and european-like toilets.
It is in a quiet neighboorhood (mostly offices and embassies), 10 min. walking from the Ala-Too Square (which is the central place of the city).

I just stayed at USSR Hostel which is in an old soviet style building (ugly on the outside but nice once inside the actual hostel). It is very central, clean and you can use a small kitchen. I liked my stay there but I didn't think it was vey easy to meet other travellers there as it has three rooms split between two apartments.

I've heard good things about the Interhouse hostel in the centre.

Hello,
A friend and I stayed in Interhouse Centre and we really liked it. It was spotlessly clean, central (walking distance to both Osh bazar and Ala Too square)and the staff was very friendly and helpful. They have dorms and private rooms with shared bathroom for 15$ per person including breakfast (July 2014).
The same owners have another hostel called Interhouse which we tried and liked a lot as well but that one is a bit far from the centre so we relied more on taxis when we stayed there.
The atmosphere was very pleasant in both hostels.
