I am heading to Minneapolis next month for a conference. I've never been to the city before & am looking to do a bit of exploring on my own while there for the weekend. As I am a PhD student in Anthropology and African Studies, I am aware there are a good number of Sudanese who have been settled in the area. Does anyone have any recommendations for areas of the city to check out that have a concentration of Sudanese folks? I'm especially interested in restaurants as it's been a while since…

planning a round trip from Vegas to Grand Canyon (south rim as the north rim isn't open yet, right?), Bryce and Zion early-mid April.

Park at the Grand Canyon is completely booked though, as it's the week before Easter it'll be busy but does anyone have some good suggestions near the south rim, and also near Zion and Bryce? As I'll be travelling with kids we'd like to find a place to spend a few nights and take day trips if possible?

thanks!

I will be going to Hawaii this summer for my honeymoon (probably Kuaui and Maui) and am looking for a "REAL" authentic Hawaain luau, not the gigantic tourist trap luaus that are proclaimed as the "best on the island" or "most authentic" with open bar as the key selling point.

My fiancee's mother went to Hawaii in the late 70s and went to a small luau with some 30 guests, certainly less than the 100s or 1000 at the large advertised parties. It was on a beach somewhere and they did the pig cooked…

Hi everyone,

i will be in NYC this saturday and sunday night and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good live show or consistently good venue to go to either night? I'm into anything good and new really - indie rock/punk/reggae, even some hip hop. I've looked at some local guides, etc but I don't know a lot of the bands. Any local info would be appreciated!
cheers

We have booked a tour from Las Vegas to the west rim, plane-helicopter-riverboat which sounds like a great trip. Starting to have second thoughts though........ Is there anyone who has experienced the west rim tour as well as visiting the south rim who can give me an opinion? I know the south rim is deeper and wider and hence more spectacular, but does actually going down by helicopter, and along the river make this trip more worthwhile? How much of the canyon is actually seen on the flight to…

That sounds like the kind of thing Jenna Jameson would star in. Anyway, I'm off to the US on a work trip tomorrow and I've not had much time to plan anything fun (or even get hold of a guide book) as I've just got back from another work trip to India. I'd really appreciate the advice of you stars on the Thorntree to help out a jetlagged confused girl.

My itinerary is this...
One week in Orlando (near the humugous conference centre there);
One night in Nashville;
Two nights in Defiance, Ohio (but…

Does anyone know if this is possible with the major agencies? I recall reading a post here in which someone mentioned their travel agent managing to do so, but I don't know how they found the loophole that got them out of paying upwards of $150. I'm Australian- not sure if that would have any bearing- considering renting a car on the east coast and dropping it at another point on the east coast, and most of the sites and material I've found so far seems to point to the fee being unavoidable…
