Hi, my fiancee is South African and is in between being on an F1 student visa, and application for permanent residency (Green Card.) She is currently in the United States, and we would like to go on a honeymoon in July, but are not sure whether her status will have changed to allow her to travel outside of the country. With that in mind we want to stick to the states.
My question is whether we can take a flight originating in the United States to Hawaii, without any passport or visa control procedures. I would think that since she has already legally entered the US at New York, that now she can travel even to Hawaii since it is a state. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hawaii is an American state. It's exactly like traveling traveling from New York to Florida. The only exception is that there are strict regulations on movement of fruits, plants, and so forth between the mainland states and Hawaii.

What #1&2 said!!!!
Funnily enough, I have just come back from Hawaii and everyone was telling me about the strick procedures regarding fruit etc. I just walked off the plane and it was only when I asked someone about being checked that they asked me 1 question........"Got anything on you that you shouldn't have?"
Basically, I had to find them. That doesn't sound very stringent to me!!!!
FYI it was Maui airport.

Almost every time in dozens and dozens of trips to and from HI I have had my bags scanned for fruits and veggies. This may well have happened to you since the machine is the same X ray as security, and we're all so used to it that few people notice in Hawaii that they went through "twice". Pretty hard to escape it, especially in HNL.

All I can tell you is that I went through Los Angeles airport and was scanned (which is normal). There was nothing asked of me regarding fruit and veg (which isn't surprising as i could have been travelling anywhere) and when I got to Maui my bag (hand luggage) was not checked at all. I was able to walk out of the airport with no problems at all.
My hand luggage was my main piece of luggage.
Thats all I can tell you really. I can only go by my experience. Anyway, we've digressed somewhat on the matter asked!!!!!
