looking for vineyards to visit next week near Sacramento-white wines preferred. Any experiences to report? thanks
I assume you are interested in wineries with tasting rooms, rather than gazing at grapevines.
Close in, get there within a half hour or less:
Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg. 15 small wineries in one place. Most from the Clarksburg appellation. I'd try Viogniers, but there are some good Chards from that area.
Bogle isn't at the Sugar Mill, but they are nearby. Somehow, no one thinks of them as large, but they are actually one of the largest California wineries. Still family-owned. They buy from growers in several growing regions. Their whites are good, every day wines, I think, but sometimes the tasting room sells great stuff that isn't found in stores. Good picnic area.
Scribner Bend Good Chards.
Wilson I really like their Chenin Blanc-Viognier blend. Tours by appointment only.
A bit farther away--Lodi, say an hour away, depending on where you come from.:
Lodi wineries You could try the visitor center, or do some driving. See map. Zinfandel is big in this region, but you can find good Viogniers and Chards.
Even farther--Amador, plan on at least half a day to tour.:
Amador wine map Me, I'd just drive up to Plymouth, go to Shenandoah Road, and stop in wineries that look interesting. There are many right net to each other. This is also Zin territory, but look for Viognier, Chard, or Sauvignon Blanc. I had a great Semillon from Andis the other day.

Clarksburg AVA is one of America's largest Chenin Blanc areas . Visit the nearby town of Locke ,the Grand Island Mansion, & Steamboat Landing Deli .Have a great trip !
Hadn't thought about Chenin Blanc, because it's not a favorite of mine. Try Dry Creek or Heringer in Clarksburg. Heringer is at the Old Sugar Mill.
Now that I think about it, Clarksburg would be a good choice, whether you go to the OldSugar Mill or check out wineries on your own. It's close by, and it will give you a chance to try small wineries that don't sell outside the area.
