Hi, We are a group of friends living in different countries around the world and meeting in Las Vegas to celebrate a 30th birthday so thought we would like to escape casinos etc for a short while and visit the Grand Canyon on a day trip. Does anyone have any suggestions of a tour company which caters for younger / fitter / more adventurous types who would like to see the Canyon from the air but also get out on the canyon floor and go hiking for a bit and not just go to suggested photo points and tourist shops?

Other suggestions of day trips to Vegas in a car are also very welcome!

Many thanks.

There is, to mu knowledge, no outfitter that does a combination helicopter/hiking tour. Your best bet is get a fixed-wing flight over the canyon from vegas to GC south rim, and go hiking from there on your own. There's a number of guide services that will be happy to meet you at the airport and take you on a challenging hike in lesser known areas (try Four Seasons Guides). Think of it as making your own combo tour.

Grand Canyon tour driver here. If you fly over for the day, you are not going to be doing any hiking on the canyon floor. You could go down a mile or two or hike along the rim. I think it is a waste of your time to spend all that money and just comue over for the day.

Agreed, one day isn't enough to do what you asked about, or even what I suggested. At least not to do it properly. You could fly in the morning, do your hike, overnight and fly our next morning though, that might work. BTW, hiking to the "canyon floor" is a major undertaking and you wouldn't really have time for that with just one night. You can still a plenty nice hike that doesn't go all the way to the bottom, though.

Kind of an interesting question when you think about it. Wants to go to the Canyon for a quick daytrip but doesn't want to "just go to suggested photo points and tourist shops." OP, you can't have it all. If you want to get farther into the scene, so to speak, you'll have to allocate more time. If you're looking for a quick trip there from the casinos, I think the West Rim will do it for you.

Hi everybody
Please, I would like to know if anyone knows about the following company Grand Canyon Today... (http://www.grandcanyontoday.com/).
The agencies available in hotels in Las Vegas are very expensive, so if you could give us any advice about the 'day tours company', it would very much appreciated.
Tks a lot!
