My g/frnd and I, both mid twenties are flying into San Diego (31st Mar) and out of LA (10th April)with Las Vegas for final 4 days.

We will have a rental car for the SD-LA portion of our trip.
We are planning on 4days in SD and 4days in LA and have booked hotels accordingly.

Middle days of 4th and 5th April we have free on our itenerary and are considering staying Laguna Beach, Newport Beach or similar area. Is this worthwhile or a waste of time ? I understand these are pricey areas also ?
Does anyone have any suggestions for things to do/see in these areas (We are both mid twenties) ? Poss accomodation ?

San Clemente is a great old surf/beach town. On weekend's there's a farmers market.

Do brunch at Las Brisas in Laguna Beach.

Go to the mission (17th century church) in San Juan Capistrano. Have a barbecue in the late afternoon at San Clemente State Beach, a southern California classic place that will have you looking for Beach Boys records. Seriously, the place is magnificent.
