Hi, I’m traveling to the US for a few weeks in June - I’ll be in San Antonio from first thing in the morning on a Friday until late on Sunday night- is it worth taking a day trip to Austin on the Saturday or just sticking around San Antonio?
I’m from Australia but travel to the US regularly so there’s a good chance I can get back to Texas another time soon.
Thanks :-)

Austin is fine for a day trip, but with a car, you may want to spend a day in Hill Country instead. Fredericksburg is the main town in the area, and is nice for a stroll. Enchanted Rock or Pedernales state parks are good for short hikes (get to Enchanted Rock early, though; it gets very busy).

You'll need a car to see anything in that area. Given that there isn't much in San Antonio, yes, you should take a day trip through the Hill Country and see Austin. The Hill Country is pretty and pleasant in away that's a nice side trip but not somewhere you'd travel 1000s of miles to see just for itself. Ditto Austin which is living off a reputation it might have deserved 30 years ago.

Excellent idea. Go for it!
To me, Austin’s appeal is its nightlife. It has a vibrant scene very different from San Antonio. Other than the Capitol and UT, I don’t know what there is to see there.
I have to kill some time in San Antonio myself later this year and thought this site looked interesting for inspiration:
Hi everyone!
I'm also interested in the topic because I'm going to San Antonio in the near future. How about a car rental? Is there AVIS or Hertz in this city? I have an annual insurance plan from carinsurent.com and I would like to enjoy it further in San Antonio. it's profitable for me
Any ideas?
