Hi, my husband and I are planning a road trip for end of September/October, we're coming from Sydney AUS and thinking to fly into Seattle and work our way South to LA. I haven't booked flights yet - overall we're pretty flexible with when we leave, but we do have to be in LA by the 20th October to meet family. How long should we allocate for this trip, taking into consideration we will have our 3 year old daughter with us and don't want to rush it? We don't want to spend hours driving in the car each day, and don't think our daughter will last very long either! (although open to a few longer driving days if need be along the way)
Any suggestions for routes to take? Also, must see places, also keeping in mind our young daughter?
At this stage, I'm roughly thinking about 3 weeks will be comfortable, or just under 3 weeks? Some places of interest for us so far are:
- SEATTLE (fly in here)3 days?
- Mount Rainier NP
- Mount St Helens N Volcanic Monument?
- PORTLAND 3 days?
- Crater Lake NP
- Oregon Caves NM
- Redwood NP
- SACRAMENTO?
- SAN FRANCISCO 3 days?
- Yosemite NP 2 nights?
- Monterey/Carmel
- Big Sur
- LOS ANGELES (arrive on 20th Oct)
Any suggestions for places to stop between some of the bigger gaps here would be greatly appreciated. Also, recommendations for how long we should stay at any of these places?
We're liking the idea of the trip being a gentle 'S' down, inland, coast, inland, coast and so forth.
I'd so appreciate any general tips, advice or suggestions on all of this!
Thanks!
Jessica
