Hi I was hoping to get advice and tips. We are going to Florida in November 2018 and was thinking on doing a long road trip prior, from Las Vagas to florida going on route 66. Would this be a good idea or any other suggestions for a good road trip Thanks Liz

I wouldn't drive from Miami to Las Vegas. How much time do you have?
I would fly from Miami (MIA or FLL) to New Orleans for 3-4 nights, then fly to Las Vegas for two weeks, and do a wonderful loop through the beautiful national parks, back to Las Vegas. Part of that loop takes you along part of the "old" Route 66 - more than enough to get a feel for it.
If you have time, you could then drive to Los Angeles over two days via Death Valley.

First tip is route 66 goes nowhere near Florida. Of course you can you meet it at some point as you head west. How long have you got? It is a long drive but certainly could be an interesting one.
Parts of it might be interesting (which is always an interesting word when used to describe things). but I would take a huge amount of convincing that it is even remotely the best way to spend time and money - if you have a couple of weeks loose in America.

You might but you are not the poster or me for that matter. But who said a couple of weeks.
Not sure I fully understand the point.
But we have driven through coastal Mississippi State and it was awfully dull - and that's probably typical of the whole eastern half of the trip, in terms of interest. And the western dry part improves not much. Texas anyone?
I assumed a couple of weeks if they're contemplating such a drive ... I don't think that's particularly controversial.
I actually see now you're heading from Las Vegas to Miami, rather than the other way round. Are you going to Miami to catch a cruise?
Anyway - just reverse what I said, starting from LAX, drive to Las Vegas over two days, do a two-week loop, see New Orleans, and so on.
RT66 is boring and time consuming.
Driving the interstates is as boring and no fun. Especially Texas.
The only worthwhile area to stop and see, is New Orleans and I would fly there as a 2-3 nighter.
Possibly consider the Natchez Trail area too...(Further north)

How long do you have for this trip and what are your dates, important for a road trip especially out west.
What are you interests for this trip??????????
Your best bet for a nice road trip is the southwest, it still has some decent parts of Rte.66 left, the majority of it is now interstate. Mostly boring and tedious all the way to Chicago.
Recommend, depending on how much time you have, do a nice loop out of LV then fly to Florida.
Once you pass New Mexico the road trip from LV to Florida is absolutely horrible, ugly scenery, a complete waste of time and money.
I've actually driven from Las Vegas NV to Punta Gorda Fl.
Unless you meander way off of the most direct route, it is a very long, very monotonous, very flat drive. I would not recommend it for sight seeing. I would need a really GOOD reason to ever do it again.
I would also consider "US-66" (it no longer exists as a federal highway) to be one of the "meanders." You'll only be on I-40, what used to be US-66, for the few miles between Kingman AZ and the junction of I-40 and US-93 if you stay on the most direct route.
Depending on what you want to see, how many days you have for the trip, and how many hours a day you are able/willing to drive, I could suggest some "meanders."
