By the way, be sure to visit a fortune teller. I still have the good-luck rocks.

Yeah they do some serious beach patrolling and raking at night - you can get away with it if you sleep under the boardwalk in a town that has a boardwalk, but that presents a whole host of other dangerous and disgusting issues - definitely not my idea of romance. Better find a hotel or a more secluded beach!

The Jersey shore has many sites worth seeing. Point Pleasant is charming on it's own. Near by places to visit would be Seaside Heights ( a much larger boardwalk) , Island Beach State Park which is near Seaside and has beautiful undeveloped beaches. Then of course there is Cape May , Wild Wood and Atlantic City.

Hope the weather id fine

Oh yeah, Island Beach State Park is great if you want a view of what the NJ Shore would look like without the boardwalks and crowds. Very natural and pretty.

Aside from the obvious stuff, like drinking and walking the boards, there's not too much else to do. If you like theater, though, you can check out the Surflight Theater in Beach Haven, which is a town on Long Beach Island. I used to go there in high school, and we had a good time. While you're on LBI, you could also go deep sea fishing. My dad, brother, and I had a yearly ritual where we would go fishing for Blue Fish. It was a lot of fun. I think we used to get the boats in Barnegat Lighthouse, on the north end of LBI. I also used to enjoy hiking through the Pine Barrens. It's not difficult to walk, as the land is pretty flat, but it's an interesting ecosystem to see.

Like most New Jersey natives, I have fairly strong preferences for what I want from a trip 'Down the Shore'

Island Beach for clean unspoiled beaches, Seaside for the Boardwalk nightlife, Tuckerton for fishing and a trip to Tuckerton Seaport museum

Be aware that all beaches along the Jersey Shore will charge you something for access to the beach/ocean itself. To the best of my knowledge, there is no such thing as a 'free' beach (at least during the Tourist season). The fee for 'Public' beaches averages a couple of dollars or so for one-day access. The weekly rate is much cheaper on a per-day basis. Certain other locations are owned by private parties (either beachfront homeowners or Hotels etc.) and may or may not be willing to sell you a beach badge for access to their particular location. If your friend is renting or owns in the area, they may be able to lend you a beach badge or two for beach access (to specific beaches in Point Pleasant) , otherwise you'll have to pay

Point Pleasant is a nice place to actually stay - only 9 miles away from Seaside, but generally much better behaved and with more to do in the daytime than most of the Boardwalk towns like Wildwood and Seaside - which are much more fun after dark IMHO

Part of the Shore experience is the food. Almost all of the boardwalk stands will have decent pizza. Otherwise, local knowledge is a must. One place I would personally recommend is any of the 5 Surf Taco locations - there will be one very close to you in Point Pleasant Beach. Also plenty of Diners around, another option that is well worth exploring. This is another area where local knowledge is essential

Saltwater taffy is a classic Shore treat - available just about anywhere you can smell the ocean

Avoid acting like a Benny and you'll probably have a great time
