LA private tour guide

I am sure such people exist, especially in LA where if you’ve got the money, honey, someone’s got the time. For a private tour guide, “not crazy expensive” may be tough. You aren’t going to find the taxi driver who doubles as a guide and will take you out for the day. Hiring a Uber driver for the day might work, but the driver may not know a dang thing about places of interest, just how to use a GPS to get there. Otherwise you are probably looking at one of the LAX layover tour companies

One big consideration is, in one day, there is no way you are going to hit all the things you want to see and do. Los Angeles is really the “Los Angeles area,” a sprawling megalopolis of continuous cities, of which LA is the largest. Traffic is awaful and the places that interest you can easily be an hour's drive apart. You might find yourself seeing an awful lot of highways and just waving at sites as you drive past, if you really want to fit it all in. Don’t forget to take jet lag and travel fatigue into consideration.

If you really want to do this, Google search for *LAX layover tours**. These are companies that specialize in tours for people who have a long time to kill in LA between fights or boarding a cruise ship or something. The least xpendive will have fixed itineraries. Here is an example I grabbed at random.

Santa Monica (20 mins)

I also found a company that let’s you customize a tour. They charge by the hour, three hour minimum, US$510.

Uber it to each place or rent a car. Plan it all around the traffic rush hour. Where are you staying?

LA is hell...

I would just go to Santa Monica and Beverly Hills and Hollywood, as they are all in a easy triangle as far as getting between them...

We found a great article on theHuffington Post that is using public transport and LA in a day (we don't need to do the beaches as we have a day there after the conference with all the delegates)

So it's the boulevard, markets, observatory hill, the signs etc... usual tourists!

You need to plot out your trips using the Trip Planner at trips.metro.net to see how long it will take and if there are any changes of buses involved. Note you get to the Observatory usually via the Dash bus. It may be easier to use Uber depending on where you are staying. Observatory is closed on Monday.

There is a huge tourism market in LA. You can find someone to take you around for perhaps 100-120 for the day, transport will be extra.
