Hi everyone!

We are hoping to get some feedback on this rough itinerary we have created for our Edmonton - Portland roadtrip. These are the highlights/areas we want to hit, and just want to make sure we’re being realistic with our time. We’re trying to tailor this to be a mix of camping as well as a little bit of city exploring (specifically Seattle and Portland).

Little bit of background info: We’re aiming to be going in mid-July (or anytime in summer, whatever is the best weather?). We have a little over two weeks. We have not booked our campsites but know we should very soon, and we last checked there are many available.

Day 1: Drive from Edmonton to Jasper (4 hours). Set up campsite.

Day 2: Take a stroll around Pyramid Lake (come extra early in the morning). Take the Patricia Lake Circle Loop trail. Explore Maligne Canyon and Lake. Sleep at campsite.

Day 3: Hike Athabasca Falls. Hike Maligne Lake. Peyto Lake (Bow summit viewpoint (2.7 km roundtrip). Start driving towards Banff National Park. Check in at camping site near Moraine Lake/Lake Louise.

Day 4: Wake up extra early to see the sunrise at Moraine Lake. Do the Teahouse hike at Lake Louise.

Day 5: Wake up to drive to Kelowna (5.5 hours). Stay the night at an Airbnb.

Day 6: Wake up and drive to Seattle (5.5 hours). Sleep at Airbnb.

Day 7: Explore Seattle.

Day 8: Explore Seattle.

Day 9: Drive to Olympic National Park. Set up campsite. Sleep.

Day 10: ONP exploring.

Day 11: Drive to Mount Rainer

Day 12: Mount Rainer.

Day 13: Drive to Portland. Sleep.

Day 14: One day in Portland.

Day 15: Go home.

Is this doable? As just a basic structure. W’ere going to mix between camping and renting Airbnbs.

Thanks!

I guess I'd skip Portland. It doesn't have a lot to offer compared to Seattle. I suppose you have already been to Victoria and Vancouver, BC?

Yes we have! Well, Vancouver we have visited before and didn’t mind skipping it here on the way down. We have never been to Victoria.

Victoria is the most "English" of all Canadian cities. It's pretty impressive. You can stroll around the famous and lovely Butchart Gardens; explore the Neo-Baroque Parliament Buildings and wander around the Inner Harbour with its fishing boats and colorful floating homes.

Day 3: Hike Athabasca Falls. Hike Maligne Lake. Peyto Lake (Bow summit viewpoint (2.7 km roundtrip). Start driving towards Banff National Park. Check in at camping site near Moraine Lake/Lake Louise.

Is there a typo here? You wouldn't need to return to Maligne Lake a second time. Peyto Lake is beautiful.

Day 4: Wake up extra early to see the sunrise at Moraine Lake. Do the Teahouse hike at Lake Louise.

You need to buy the national park pass.

You have time to do at least some of the Sentinel Pass trail above Moraine Lake, prior to doing the Tea House and Beehive Walks at Lake Louise.

Day 5: Wake up to drive to Kelowna (5.5 hours). Stay the night at an Airbnb.
Day 6: Wake up and drive to Seattle (5.5 hours). Sleep at Airbnb.

We drove Kelowna > Seattle via the Okanogan Valley and North Cascades NP - it was scenic. I think two nights in Seattle is sufficient (not my favourite North American popular city - and traffic is fierce).

I would add the saved night for somewhere at the southern end of ONP - we liked the Quinault River Inn on Lake Quinault.

Day 14: One day in Portland.
Day 15: Go home.

How do you go home ... fly? But overall, I like the shape and pace of the trip.

We can provide a lot of additional texture when you decide your overall shape.
