(I kind of liked the restaurant; kind of tacky with its Star Trek-like theme, and overpriced food, but great views of lines of planes landing, especially at night).

This just in from the NBC affiliate in Los Angeles:

Encounter, the restaurant in the space-age structure at Los Angeles International Airport, was closed after it was determined that the arches supporting the structure are unstable, airport officials said Thursday. The restaurant, which provides views of the airfield and the Pacific Ocean, will be closed for at least six months as LAX workers shore up the structure, according to airport officials. Pieces of the arch -- including a 1,000-pound chunk of stucco -- began falling from the underside of the structure, prompting airport officials to close the restaurant last night, airport officials said. The arches have not been renovated since they were built in the 1950s.

I always appreciate it when officials wait until chunks of buildings start falling before they start a maintenance program.Classic example of passing the Buck.Fire somebody
