We had to be in Denver for something on Tuesday and extended the trip with two nights in Boulder. What a surprise. With all the beauty, walking street plaza and wonderful restaurants, we thought Boulder was one of the most pleasant places we have visited in the US. Right up there with Savannah. We took a morning hike in the flatirons, drove Boulder Canyon, visited UC and had dinner at The Med and The Flagstaff House. Stayed in a historic room in the Boulderado with a view of the mountains. Highly recommend it.

Boulder doesn't have a lot of friends on here ... seen as wealthy, cool, liberal, and just a little up itself. You risk getting run down by a meditating vegan on their bicycle.

But we quite liked our couple of days there ... felt like a number of Aussie regional cities. We stayed in a peculiar place - a cross between a hostel and a university residential college.

Given that Savannah is often seen as a bit of a disappointment, esp. Compared to Charleston and is probably a bit of a victim of its own hype, you might find a better metaphor.

Boulder doesn't compare with Charleston in terms of historical ambiance but it certainly has lots of outdoor recreational opportunities.

And I believe the restaurant scene in Boulder eclipses both Charleston and Savannah.
