My kids (both teens) and I are hoping to fly to Oregon to bike the coast, north to south and then continue south into California via rental car down to LA. I was hoping to find a place that had some sort of service that rented bikes (and ideally racks and paniers) in the Astoria area, and then had some sort of drop off at the southern coast so that we don't need to schlep them back north before heading into CA for the remainder of our trip. Does anyone know of such a service?

We own mountain bikes, which would make the ride harder since we'll be on roads the whole time, so I was hoping to rent road bikes and not have to deal with shipping bikes to OR from VT.

Thanks for any advice!

One option for you would be to get road or hybrid tires to put on your mountain bikes. Depending on how long you plan on using the bikes, it might be cheaper than renting road bikes. Otherwise, I am guessing most places are going to prefer that you return them to the place of origin.

That's an excellent idea. Thanks very much...I'll look into it.

Hi! In our first visit to the USA we visited only Niagara Falls. We were together with my husband without children. We have been preparing for the trip for a long time, read a lot of local forums. We don't rent road bikes, because every places are going to prefer that we return them to the place of origin. I read several reviews and we took bikes and equipment with us
