Is this the cheapest way to arrive in Humboldt County? It seems the airfares from San Diego or LA are exorbitantly priced.

The airport is small and, yes, flights are expensive. The cheapest way to arrive is by car. Fly to San Francisco or Sacramento and rent a car (whichever location works out cheaper).

You can also get from SF to Eureka by Greyhound or AMTRAK bus. They may look cheaper than flying on paper, but there are serious limitations--including that it is an all-day trip from SF, half the time of driving

The other thing to seriously think about is that if you are trying to get to Eureka to visit the Redwood National and State Parks, it is almost impossible to do without a car. There is some local bus service to a few communities near the parks, but you still have to figure out how to get to the parks and to travel within them.
