I absolutely stand by what I wrote. The guy is 22 years old. Time to cut the apron strings. AAA triptiks are for old ladies.

Food for thought:

An unlimited 30 day Eurail Pass cost $666. Cheaper fares are available for more restrictive passes. Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Republic of Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland all participate in the program.

I'm not poo-pooing the idea of a road trip across the states, but you could have a fantastic trip with that much time to spare.

Have a good trip.

AAA in general is a perfectly fine way to travel. If you also get the camping guides, plain old road maps and other stuff from AAA it yields a surprisingly usable travel system that doesn't tie you to the triptiks (which yeah, I wouldn't bother with for an unplanned road trip). But the rest is great. Until recently-when I bought a really good car GPS-I used AAA frequently and they work very well as a backbone for travel. Better by leaps and bounds than Rand Mcnally road atlases, though these too have a place in life.

Willy, being married to your idea of travelor mine-doesn't make it right for everyone else. Hell I travel-happily-all the time with a picnic cooler of food in a Honda Civic that has 250,000 miles on it. (The car, not the cooler. The cooler has about 100k on it, I'd say). But I don't doubt at all that you enjoy the good restaraunts or driving the Phaeton, either. The difference I think, is that I could enjoy the Phaeton, too. Though hopefully without the stogies. :>)

And a grand trip across the US easily atches one across Europe for sights. Not for history, architecture or linguistic difficulty. But for pure scenery? You betcha it does, and easily, too.

It's the OP's trip and the OP can and should do it his way. I only gave my opinion on the matter. A triple-A triptik? They definitely have their niche, but a 22-year-old guy seeking his road adventure is not (in my opinion) a suitable candidate for a triptik. Maybe his mother, or his grandmother. But not him.

How fun! I have no advice but I wish you well and will definatley checking out your my space page...

Life changing...take it one day at a time my dear and experience each day as it comes ( you won't know if it has been life changing until you have a little more life to look back on just have a good time...)

AAA is cool but the Rand McNally will probably be the best for you...it will allow to go off the road a bit....

OHHH I have a spot! http://www.nps.gov/cach/

If you make it to the South West try to go to De Chelly National park...everyone goes to the Grand Canyon but De Chelly is just amazing...smaller...but amazing...

Also...Europe is going anywhere and going there should be on your list...but coming for the heart of Los Angeles, I have seen alot of the United States and we truly live in a beautiful and amazing country...with some kind and pretty darn ineresting people...despite what it seem like between Fox News and Borat...the only way to find this out is to hit the road...

Best Wishes!
Amber
