Vineyards in Sacramento California area/white wine?Country forums / United States of America / United States
looking for vineyards to visit next week near Sacramento-white wines preferred. Any experiences to report? thanks
I assume you are interested in wineries with tasting rooms, rather than gazing at grapevines. Close in, get there within a half hour or less: Bogle isn't at the Sugar Mill, but they are nearby. Somehow, no one thinks of them as large, but they are actually one of the largest California wineries. Still family-owned. They buy from growers in several growing regions. Their whites are good, every day wines, I think, but sometimes the tasting room sells great stuff that isn't found in stores. Good picnic area. Scribner Bend Good Chards. Wilson I really like their Chenin Blanc-Viognier blend. Tours by appointment only. A bit farther away--Lodi, say an hour away, depending on where you come from.: Even farther--Amador, plan on at least half a day to tour.: | 1
Clarksburg AVA is one of America's largest Chenin Blanc areas . Visit the nearby town of Locke ,the Grand Island Mansion, & Steamboat Landing Deli .Have a great trip ! | 2
Hadn't thought about Chenin Blanc, because it's not a favorite of mine. Try Dry Creek or Heringer in Clarksburg. Heringer is at the Old Sugar Mill. Now that I think about it, Clarksburg would be a good choice, whether you go to the OldSugar Mill or check out wineries on your own. It's close by, and it will give you a chance to try small wineries that don't sell outside the area. | 3
