Hi, I’m traveling to the US for a few weeks in June - I’ll be in San Antonio from first thing in the morning on a Friday until late on Sunday night- is it worth taking a day trip to Austin on the Saturday or just sticking around San Antonio?
Are you able/willing to rent a car? | 1
I hadn’t planned to, but I can. | 2
Austin is fine for a day trip, but with a car, you may want to spend a day in Hill Country instead. Fredericksburg is the main town in the area, and is nice for a stroll. Enchanted Rock or Pedernales state parks are good for short hikes (get to Enchanted Rock early, though; it gets very busy). | 3
You'll need a car to see anything in that area. Given that there isn't much in San Antonio, yes, you should take a day trip through the Hill Country and see Austin. The Hill Country is pretty and pleasant in away that's a nice side trip but not somewhere you'd travel 1000s of miles to see just for itself. Ditto Austin which is living off a reputation it might have deserved 30 years ago. | 4
Excellent idea. Go for it! | 5
To me, Austin’s appeal is its nightlife. It has a vibrant scene very different from San Antonio. Other than the Capitol and UT, I don’t know what there is to see there. | 6
Austin has all sorts of fun stuff going on, definitely worth a day trip to check it out. Before you head in check Yobored to see if there's anything fun going on around town like Brunchcon if not you can always enjoy Zilker park and Barton springs or pop into a venue and see some live music! | 7
I have to kill some time in San Antonio myself later this year and thought this site looked interesting for inspiration: | 8
Hi everyone! I'm also interested in the topic because I'm going to San Antonio in the near future. How about a car rental? Is there AVIS or Hertz in this city? I have an annual insurance plan from carinsurent.com and I would like to enjoy it further in San Antonio. it's profitable for me | 9
