| adrianwingate19:06 UTC16 Feb 2007 | I have finally booked my ticket and will be landing in Maui on March 6th. I will be over there till the 15th March. I will be leaving from Honolulu.
I have been told that the best Island to go to is Kauai. I'm not a beach bum or surfer. I would like to go Island hopping for the time that I'm there. I can't think of anything worse than missing out on some of the islands.
So, I'll definately be in Mauai (where I land) and The Big Island (where I depart). At the moment that is the only definate plans I have.
Can someone please advise me on what to do in Kauai and where to stay (Looking for somewhere cheapish)(I'm willing to use Hotwire to book a room if necessary)
Also, how long to stay there without missing too much on the other Islands.
All of your help is appreciated. BTW, if you recommend that Kauai is not the best Island then I'll give it a miss and stay elsewhere.
Thank you in advnace for all of your advise.

Kauai is good for people who like outdoor recreation like hiking, kayaking, swimming...there's not a lot of shopping, nightlife, or "town" sights. It is the lushest and most tropical. But, you only have 7 full days, not counting travel days-that's not even enough for the 2 islands you're already planning on visiting, let alone a third.

I think you are right. I'll give it a miss this time around. S**t happens.
Hopefully I'll get another bite at the cherry in a few years. I'll stick to Maui, Hawaii and Oahu
Thank you for your advice.

| adrianwingate17:23 UTC17 Feb 2007 | Sorry, I might not have made myself clear.
Los Angeles to Maui
Honolulu to Los Angeles.
Anything else in between is up to me.
I have decided ont he following (I've booked my internal flights now!!!)..................
Land in Maui - Stay there for 3 days. Then off to Hilo - Stay there for 4 days. Then off to Oahu (honolulu) - Stay there for 2 days. Then back to Los Angeles.
I hope i've made the right decision!!!!!!!!

| kiliki05:02 UTC20 Feb 2007 | Ooohhh, I would NOT spend my only 4 days on the BI based in Hilo. I occasionally go there for work and while I think it's a pleasant town, with some charms, it is not the best of that island at all. The good beaches, snorkling, kayaking and historic sites (national historical parks) are all on the opposite side of the island. If you are thinking of seeing the volcano, Volcano Village is a better base (for a night)-it's a long dark drive back to Hilo from the lava viewing area.

So tell me, how easy is it to get from Hilo to the opposite side of the Isand (I doubt I'll be hiring a car)? Where do you recommend I stay? (I can always cancel 2 of the nights at Hilo)
Any specific tours and/or tour companies I should use?
