JFK Airport and some advice please

Country forums / United States of America / United States

Hi all, am travelling by Mexico to JFK for transit then to catch another flight to Taipei.

Am at the point of buying tickets from Mexico to JFK and am wondering if Jetblue or Delta is a better option?

Delta is arriving at 2100hrs (T4) and JetBlue is arriving at 2200hrs (T5) and my connecting flight is 0020hrs (T1), will it be very rush if I take Jetblue?

Also is there a lot of difference between Delta Main and Delta Comfort+ ? For a 5 hour flight the price difference of 50 USD seems like a pretty good deal.

Definitely give yourself plenty of time and go with the Delta ticket if those are your two options. You're not protected on a split ticket if your first flight is delayed (though you have a slight chance of pleading your case with the airline under 'flat tire' unwritten rules) and you want as much buffer time as possible.

How much value you get from Delta Comfort is largely based on how large of a human you are. As a tall and leggy woman, I tend to buy it for flight segments over two hours.

I agree. Go with Delta and give yourself as much time as possible at JFK. And Delta Comfort is worth an extra $50 even if you are not tall or large.

2

Also remember that the USA does not do sterile transit areas- you must fully go through immigration and customs upon arrival before you can board your connecting international flight and have all relevant documents in place for that. So make sure your ESTA/visa is in order to avoid being denied boarding in Mexico.

hi, thanks for the good advice!

Yes ... we've flown in and out of JFK a couple of times as non-Americans, and I think it's worthwhile having that extra hour ... especially with terminal changes, luggage collection (?), and Immigration / Customs / Security processes.

5

The distances between the terminals can be considerable, and with non connecting flights you may have to leave one terminal after you get through customs, they may take your luggage after customs depending on the airline for your next flight, but you still have to go through full security for your next flight and from my experience that is time consuming..

thanks all I already booked the Delta Comfort+ flight!
