Another huge stream of water has been discovered at the depth of approximately 13 thousand feet of the Amazon River surface, which is among the largest rivers of the world flowing through many Latin American countries.

The scientists of the Brazilian National Observatory have discovered about six thousand kilometers of this underground river. Scientists have named the river named Hamza in their name under the leadership of Indian origin geologist Dr. Walia Hamja. Dr. Hamza has been researching…

We are considering a small group Adventure Travel tour that travels from Salento to the Cocora Valley then moves on to Chinchina & the coffee region with a public bus ride from there to Medellin. The Canadian Government has a travel advisory for the Antioquia Department to avoid non essential travel which I believe covers this area we want to travel to.
Does anyone have any experience with travelling through this area, and is there any cause for safety concerns when travelling with a group?
Thank…

Hi,

I'm going to Peru for a whole month next week (May 2019).

I know that I'm very late on my planning.
The only thing I booked are this:
- Machu Picchu tickets (including Huayna Picchu).
- Train roundtrip tickets to Machu Picchu.
- Hotel in Aguas Calientes.
- Flight from Cusco to Lima.

Are there other important things I absolutely need to book in advance?
- Ballestas Island boat tour?
- Nazca Lines flight?
- 3 day trekking in Canyon del Colca?
- Boat tour of the Lake Titicaca islands and a overnight…

Here's the latest based on my experience 19 April, 2019

Contrary to the new rules, guides are not needed to visit MP. Once in the park, you are free to wander about on your own. Bear in mind though that there are circuits you are expected to follow and while it's possible to backtrack, you can't really deviate from the circuits as there are guards posted at strategic points who will prevent you from doing that.

Also contrary to the new rules, nobody checks your bags for food or disposable…

Hi! Me and my boyfriend are planning a trip to Peru next year April and we are planning to go for a Lares Trek. After some research, we still can’t decide on which route and tour agency to go for. Both of us prefer not-so-crowded route, less tourist, with nice scenery and experience local culture!
We’ve shortlisted 3 tours with different routes and would like to hear some suggestions from you guys!
1. Wayki Trek
CUSCO - LARES AGUAS TERMALES - HUACAHUASI - PUMAMARKA - OLLANTAYTAMBO - AGUAS CALIENTES…

Hi,
I'm going on a 9 day trek in Peru, which is one of my great pleasures in life. However, I've developed knee problems over the past year and am worried that the pain may bother me a lot, particularly sleeping. I do have a prescription for meloxicam, which is basically like heavy duty naprosyn or ibuprofen, but that doesn't do much for strong pain. A friend of mine gave me a few vicodin (or maybe it's codeine) tablets for me to bring for my first aid kit, but it isn't prescribed to me, so no…

Hello kind souls of Lonely Planet,

I'm trying to plan a trip to Antarctica for November 2019 and I'm a bit lost.
What's my best option to get a 7-10 cruise for less than 6,000$? Are there any reliable tour operators that offer these rates now, or can I only hope for last minute deals?
And if last minute, when is considered "last minute"? What are the chances there won't be any deals at all? And what's the smartest way to go about it?

Thank you so much!

Hi all,

Our itinerary for South America is very tight, and we have time to spend slightly longer in one of Cusco, Sucre or Potosi. Given this, which would you recommend? It seems like in Cusco two full days would allow one day to explore the Sacred Valley nearby (Puca Pucara etc.) and one day for the city itself. Whereas Sucre and Potosi there is maybe less to see? At the moment we have:

One full day in Cusco (before a night bus to Copacabana)
Arrive in Sucre after overnight bus from La Paz…

Im aware that the classic trek has been closed for some time now and that you need guides to do the day treks. However, I read about the 4 day Paso del Conejo trek in the 2015 lonely planet that was still open when other parts of the Park had closed. Does anyone have any insight into this part of the park and whether it is open for trekking without a guide? If not, i will just write off El Cocuy for the foreseeable!

Hello!

My friend is a French citizen renewing her American visa while we are visiting Peru. The American embassy in Lima has her passport for about five days, unfortunately these are the only days we can visit Cusco. She has her French national ID, an old expired French passport, a copy of her current passport, and a note from the embassy about her appointment. I've heard she wont be able to get into Macchu Picchu, that the guards will stop her outside if she doesn't have her passport original…
