We're a couple in our mid twenties from England and have found cheap flights to Isla Margarita. We're thinking of travelling from there to other less package holiday oriented places in Venezuela. Please could you let us know whether it is possible/easy and how much it would cost, to travel to other islands and around the mainland too. Unfortunately our Spanish is limited to say the least. Like many others, I have often fantasized about camping on a deserted island paradise. Seems like there might be a few places off Venezuela's coast where mass tourism still hasn't ruined that dream completely. Hey incase anyone wanted a follow up, arrived in Caracas two days ago, went to the domestic Terminal and got $250 changed at rate of 4.4BLV to $1 took bit of arguing, they started at 3.8 I started at 5 we agreed at 4.4BLV to the 1$, straight out side there was a bus terminal with buses heading for Park _Central last stop, signs easy to follow! What and when will be the major celebration in Venezuela during the carnaval? Would it be better to stay in Caracas or in other cities?
As for Angel Fall, is it worth going in the dry season of February?

I'm traveling to South America this Summer and am considering a visit to Venezuela. However, Lonely Planet only has information regarding Caracas. I am attempting to visit 5 or 6 other South American coutries with limited time (about a month and a half tops). So, is Venezuela worth a stop? I guess I'm just looking for someone to sell me on this place. I keep hearing that the natives aren't so nice to people from the US. Anything you can tell me is appreciated!
