Hi, I have heard conflicting info in guide books regarding if a tourist card is needed in advance or if its issued at a land boarder when entering Venezuela (from Colombia). Your advice would much appreciated.

depends on what country you are from... but nearly all western countries you get it at the border... you usually get one for 60 days but can extend it an additional 30 days up to 4 times

Is this the Tourist Entry Card (TEC) or a visa you are referring to?

yeah its the tourist entry card, most western countries don´t need a visa and visitors from these countries will just receive a stamp in their passport and an entry card when arrive

As a Swiss citizen, when entering Venezuela landway, I get only a 30 day visa whereas flying into the country I can stay there up to 90 days. I think it would be recommendable that anyone thinking of doing so, before they leave their country should call the Venezuelan Embassy and ask for information in this matter.
