Bear in mind that there are two rates of exchange in Venezuela. The black market pays much more for foreign currencies than the official one.

Previous post:
The black market is widespread in Venezuela: you can get up to 3.9 Bolivares per American dollar against 2.15 on the official market and with credit cards - Bring American dollar cash, bigger notes get you a better exchange rate.

Yea very very important. we recently went to venezuela from Bolivia and spent 1400$ on 2 plane tickets to there and no one at the agencey told us but if you dont have cash things are more expensive then even where i come from in Canada. we had no american dollars and we ended up leaving after 5 days of no fun. there is no bank or person in venezuela who will give you other currency then theirs. you can exchange your american dollars at your hotels n stuff. but i suggest you to bring travelers checks too. dont make our mistake. i wouldnt bother with exchanging it at the air port either. wait till you get to your hotel. just change enough for the taxi.

I'm Venezuelan living in US, but I just re-discovered my country next to my husband. I may think this are the top 5 places to visit in Venezuela:
- Canaima/Angel Falls.... At least 3 nights/2 days - Jungle
- Merida... so many things to do and see! - Mountain
- Los Roques - Beach
- Margarita - Beach and parties
- Los Llanos - Adventure
