Hi there,

I am currently travelling in Venezuela and would like to keep going for a bit longer.

Does anybody know a hostel or other company that accepts Euro bank transfers or paypal transfers in exchange for Bolivares?

I am currently in Caracas and plan to be in Merida in 2 or 3 days. Any contacts who are willing to change are highly appreciated as I only seem to run into people that change cash which I am running out off.

Cheers
Jan

It would be an easy way to strike it rich if you could transfer foreign currency and sell it on the black market. Banks will probably transfer your hard currency but give you bolivares at the official rate of exchange.

clear that's why I am looking for someone who has a foreign bank account or paypal account so I can make the transfer to that account.

This happens all the time I just haven;'t met anyone yet who is willing to do this in Merida or Caracas.

Banks will probably not give you foreign currency. They will give you bolivares at the official rate of exchange. If not, someone else would have discovered this easy way of making money long before you did.

Look I am not trying to involve any venezuelan banks. Just looking for a person in Venezuela who wishes to receive my Euros in his foreign bank account for the black market fx rate.

This is the same as a fx deal on the streets here except I transfer money instead of handing in out in cash. Happens all the time so I am not inventing a money making machine here.

If you don't manage to find anyone, just withdraw some money in a bank using the not-that-bad new exchange rate. The official rate just doubled on friday and is now 4.3 BsF to the dollar. Check http://www.venezuelanalysis.com/news/5057

It happens all the time but there must be something wrong with it as you cannot find anyone who is willing to do it.

People may not want to hand over their bank details to a stranger. I wouldn't.
Get family or friends to send you $$ via Western Union or similar and transfer funds to their account.

For those interested I managed to transfer some money to the foreign bank account of somebody in the hotel I am staying in in Caracas (German bank account). Fx rate was 8.6 to the Euro which is not great also not that bad.

@ bamemory looks like you need to have the last word don't you? Maybe accept that you are not well informed on the subject and let others add some valuable comments instead of wasting my time and diverting the discussion. Stick to providing feedback on matters you know stuff about as I am sure there are other questions you can help people with.
